intermediate shaft and water pump woes

When I changed the water pump on my 90 Jetta (Sold now) I removed the intermediate shaft pulley and just changed out the pump head, and not the housing. I don't have half the tools I need, though I should've been able to get the housing off since I removed the air conditioning compressor much earlier in the car's life. I broke two bolts. And I do believe I was able to get the broke bolts out with a propane torch and some vice grips, and just replaced them with bolts from the hardware store. No leaks =)
