Overheated engine running

My overheated 1981 1.6L Engine is running pretty smooth. I am surprised it is running at all. Lot of white smoke out of exhaust and bubbles in the expansion tank. The injection pump is leaking bad and it didn't before it overheated. I am having a mechanic do a compression test today. I am hoping it is just the head gasket. and I guess I will have to rebuild the pump.
