Sad day today. Hagar is gone.

Post by slowbirds »

Today Aug 1st 2011 between 9am and 1pm hagar passed away in his home. It is where he wanted to be and not in the hospital. I visited him every day for a long time, all of this year.and we kept in contact by phone.

I last spoke with him at 9am today and he sounded quite up beat. I told him I would be out later to see him and when I got there at 1 pm I found him dead on his kitchen floor.

He is at peace now in hillbilly heaven. Bye Hagar we will spread your ashes in your beer garden.

slowbirds.

Dear Svend,
If the spirit of Hagar lives on up in heaven, I'm sure he'll find diesels to tinker with. Chances are he'll share a beer with some of engineering's greats, and if you see Fred Dibnah chuntering past on his traction engines, I'm sure you'll enjoy a ride and a drink with him.
RIP my friend,

Mark.

Thank you for letting us know so quickly about the loss of your dear friend, Slowbirds. Take care.

It's a sad day here on the forum. Hagars unique and sometimes quirky way of offering suggestions and commentary on this forum has been missed with his infrequent visits to the forum website postings. His experience and knowledge will continue to help others through this forum. I'm glad that someone has been visiting him - thanks slowbirds. I had grand wishes of taking a road trip and spending a week with him and learning all that I could in that time, but it didn't work out. Carry on Hagar. You will be missed and we'll pray for your friends and family in this time of need.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

I'm failing to come up with the words to express what I feel right now.

I only knew Svend through this words, and yet these words told the story of man journeying through an interesting life and time. His experience and approach to solving problems opened my eyes to a different way of doing things (essentially: test and modify, but by creating tools out of nothing). He was always there to poke at people's posts to help them think through what they were saying, and quick to laugh and joke and appreciate other people: their experiences, their approaches, themselves. He was one of us. He is already missed.

I am a better person for having known him, and am thankful I got a window into his story...

Very sad.

I wish I had the oppurtunity to meet him,
and to understand his history.
Now it is too late.

I understood he was originally here from Copenhagen,
and was speaking danish still.

Hagar was one of a kind but in some ways not an unusual person of his time. He learned to survive by making due with what he had at hand or could make. He obtained his diesel knowledge by doing not so much by reading. He often rubbed people the wrong way, particularly people who think that only their way is the correct way. Hagar showed them all. Godspeed....and to pull from an old irish saying, I am sure he was gone and in heaven a 1/2 hour before the devil knew he was gone. Sail on free spirit. Hayden
