'91 Jetta new windshield

Post by DanHoug »

in the morning i drive to work 63 miles into the sun and going home 63 miles home into the sun... i got tired of my worn out windshield and had it replaced for $275.

on the drive home from the glass shop i literally startled myself about three times thinking i didn't have a windshield in place! what a joy.

watched the entire process, having never seen any windshield replaced. pretty cool. i don't know if i would do one myself as i'm not sure the price point with getting glass shipped to my house is there but it was a fairly simple process. the new windshield comes with the exterior rubber trim already bonded so they just set the glass on a bead of caulk and that was it!!

I've considered replacing glass before, but then reality sets in. Especially when you don't do it every day, don't have the tools, and have to pay for the broken glass when you goof up. For that, the $75 or so for it's installation isn't that bad, IMO.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

the young guys at the shop were pretty conversational when they were replacing it... they said they wouldn't do one on their own if they were me for the sole reason of breakage when installing it. it must happen with some frequency.

not that difficult, with 2 people, suction cups and a clean well buttered opening with the real adhesive.

but a real pain in the *ss if you are by yourself......

let the pro's do it otherwise.

Sounds like a wolfberg windshield, with the metal trim built-in.

I've put a couple windshields in.
My last Rabbit windshield went in perfect,.. but it does take 2 people to set it down right.
