MK2 in a MK1 Caddy Swap

Post by tripseven »

Will a 1985 MK2 motor/trans fit in a 1982 MK1 Caddy without needing mods or extra parts? Im just wondering if it will swap right in.

Thank in advance

you will need all the motor mounts from the MK1 motor which means removing the injection pump to get to that passenger side mount. That's for sure. The rear mount I believe depends on certain studs protruding from the transmission and I don't believe the MKII transmissions have those, or at least not all MKII trannys. There are some web pages that list transmission characteristics by transmission code (bottom of bell housing). Not too sure about the front motor mount that bolts up to the starter bolts but if I recall those are different too on a MKII.

So the answer is, if you have the right transmission and don't mind swapping brackets and a few parts from the MKI engine you should be good to go with that swap.
