1982 Vanagon diesel 1.6l.With no tach.,,,What speed is safe to drive at on freeway?
Some people say 56mph.others say 64mph
What is cruising rpm on this motor when i do get a tach?
Living in San Diego,Ca. cars on the freeway average almost 80 mph,so don't want to get run over

I would think as fast as you want to go. It isn't turbo and the fuel isn't turned up is it? If not the IP is governed and you won't have to worry about EGT's so go as you wish I would think. Being a vanagon you may get better mileage at certain slower speeds vs. flooring it. I really doubt there would be any issues from too much rpm. I would just keep an eye on the temps.
