Seat belt problem

It takes me way longer to get my seat belt on, then for the glow plug light to go out on my 81 Rabbit pickup. Only releases about an inch at a time. Have removed the roller twice, but can't see anything to clean or repair. Any hope for it, or just look for a newer one? Thanks, Kanzan

isnt there on the end of the roller a gear type of thing (round)? and on the gear will be a piece on some sort of spring, lube this piece so it moves and try.
