That pic is of a 1.5 diesel. And trust me, you don't want that stamped steel piece of crap. You'll want one from a 1980-1984 Rabbit/Jetta.

Interesting. This is for my 81 Caddy, which had a motor swap at some point and has a 1.6L in it. That's the bracket that it has (and that is broken).
Will the cast part bolt up the same?
Will I need a different belt as a result?

While the alternator will work with either of the brackets,..
If you go from stamped steel to cast:
the upper timing belt cover won't match up with the support hole on the cast bracket,..
and the injection pump bracket won't bolt up right.
The stamped one is a 1.5 alternator bracket setup.

I've been driving my car around for several months now with a less than ideal setup that is working just fine.

The previous owner removed the AC compressor in 1983 and just got a longer belt that goes from the crank to the water pump to the alternator. He claims to have only replaced it once in all those years.

The odd twist is that ... the alternator has the spaced out pulley and does not line up with the crank and water pump. The correct alternator I recently found has the pulley right up against the fan and also would be offset in the opposite direction. It's bizarre but has given me no problems at all.

If you`d like pics I can take some, lol. Seems these brackets are easier to find.

I sorted mine by making a spacer for the alt to shim the pulley to where it was close to perfect. Also, if you still have the old bracket you could weld in some flat stock and repair it to work better than it was.

I dropped the bracket off at a local welding shop today while I continue my quest for better solutions. I have a MIG welder at home (Ithaca NY) but I'm still living in San Francisco for the next month. :(
