After weighing the merits of fixing vs. junking the '83, I've decided to throw it away. To a degree I hate to do it, but it just doesn't work for me economically. In addition to needing a new head and attendant parts to install it, it also is in need of a windshield that I cannot source locally. I'll be selling the more useful stuff, like the pump and block, and the small parts I've accumulated over the years. I'm sorry to see it go, as I've become pretty attached, but it's time.
Unless, of course, someone is itching to take it off my hands cheap....

Now that is sad. It's all those little things that add up I suppose.My engine ran for two miles without water [no water level warning sensor] whilst towing a caravan. Just a new hose and a gasket. This engine just won't die. I'm wondering if I'll ever get to drive my factory fitted TD fastback Quantum, that has been stood for 10 years.

Poor diesel.
I understand, and would quickly buy it if you were nearby.
I was just tooling around under my own hood trying to figure out why i`ve lost two alternator pivot bolts in as many weeks ... this time I drove about 50 miles home with it missing, no ill effect.
But I discovered that my head gasket is leaking a little oil & antifreeze out the front.
Gotta pull the head and change it, good chance to fix that one valve that won`t quite adjust.
I understand, and would quickly buy it if you were nearby.
