air in fuel line?

Hi, I recently did a complete engine swap in my '82. Its another 1.6 na similar to the one I took out. I have gotten it going and put just a few miles on it so far. One thing I notice is that when I shut it down, the column of fuel in the line slowly creeps back from the IP to the filter until its nearly empty. This makes starting a bit slow... cranks for quite a bit before fuel is back at the pump. Anybody know what this might be? Is there a check valve somewhere that might be faulty? I don't see/hear any fuel/air leaks either when running or not. I also have another diesel Vanagon. That one keeps the fuel in the line and starts right up.
