MK 1 radio installation

Post by supersisu »

Now that I have repaired the wiring harness in my 1980 Caddy, it's time for a little luxury: an am/fm cassette radio. There was one installed by a p.o., probably the cause of the electrical fire and melted wiring harness as it seemed to be powered through the headlight toggle switch! Hard to tell with all the fried wires.

I don't think the Bentley manual shows a radio, and I'm wondering how to power it. I'm thinking of taking power from the back of the fusebox, maybe one of the "H" prongs. Would appreciate any ideas.

On my car, the defroster switch was disconnected for some reason, so I tapped it for key on only power (and a lot of it).

I used to use the ciggy lighter feed for that stuff. Constant on.

(Don't listen to the radio anymore... need to only pay attention to the idiots trying to kill me.)
Have a nice day.
