Weird idle when cold

Post by Diesel Dean »

This has been going on for sometime, not really a problem but just wondered what would cause this. When I start my truck it idle fine but after it gets warm it will jump up to a high idle. It takes about 10 mins before it jumps up. The first time I heard this was in the morning before work. It is dark and cold so I go out the start it early everyday. So I am going out to get in the truck and when I am walking up to it it sound like some is in it pushing on the accelerator pedal. It's dark and the lights are shining on me, it scared the shit out of me. Lol. Anyone think of why it would do that.

Is it surging? (faster, slower, faster, etc.) If so, check the IP mounting bolt near the dipstick. If that's loose, you might check the others too (vibration takes stuff apart).

If you can post pix of your pump, it may help.
Have a nice day.

It's not surging it jumps up about 100 rpm and stays. It only happens when cold and it sets idling for about 10 mins. I added a k14 turbo when I rebuilt the engine about two years ago. It has a n/a pump.

as I understand it... idle is to be adjusted on a warm engine. so just adjust down and see what it does. also check your static timing.
