This engine was in a car I bought from a co-worker. His Son ran it without coolant and warped the head. I bought the car and replaced the head with a TopLine aftermarket head. I pulled the pistons and replaced the rings. I think the car had about 120k on it at the time...as best I can remember. I then used the car as a daily driver for several months until I had a sudden loss of compression in one cylinder. I was told that replacing rings in a diesel is a bad idea as the new round rings don't get along well with the not so round bores. The theory being that rings broke under the extreme compression that is central to the diesel. As many of you know the Quantum had a longitudinal engine layout so the exhaust manifold and some pulleys and brackets are different. This engine would need bored with oversized pistons. The key ingredient here is the TopLine head that has only about 15k miles on it.
