Shaft for a vacuum pump

Shaft for a vacuum pump
Anyone know where I can get a shaft for my 1991 1.6 ME vacuum pump. I ended up having the engine rebuilt. I don't want to start it with out fixing the pump. Here is a picture of the shaft.

Thanks for the reply Fatmobile. I do know a good fabricating shop in Newington CT. But I became apposed to that for fear that the weld would break off and get into the oil pan or do other damage like to the drive gear. Maybe I could ask the guy his thoughts?
Do you know if that gear comes off the shaft?
Thanks Tom

How about getting a different (used) vacuum pump and keeping this one for spare parts?
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

I couldn't find used one close to here (Enfield CT). I'd like to get it started this week. New rebuilt is a little pricy $250.00.

I do not think there is anything to fix.
It is only a cosmetic problem, it will never slip a single turn.

My vacum pumps look like this, and I consider them to be fine.

Good post Ctange... Of course those chamfers help with assembly, and possibly even with oil flow.

Wow, you think that is the way they're made? Has anyone else seen this? I'm still kind a scared to put it back in.
Thanks for the reply,

Mine look like that. I've not seen a new one, but I'm confident they're ok.
Have a nice day.

Re: Shaft for a vacuum pump
I changed the picture in my first post. I'm still scared to put this pump back in. The re-builder told me the oil pump shaft was all beat up from the vacuum pump (of course there is a new oil pump in it now).

Re: Shaft for a vacuum pump
You can use a puller and a small socket (as a drift) to take the gear off and get a good look.
This shaft is one off my 86TD, 200K miles.

Re: Shaft for a vacuum pump
Wow, Thank you thank you TylerDurden, for going through the trouble to take a picture and post it. That one doesn't look like it's worn out. It looks like it's been machined that way, and it still has the hour glass shape.
Thanks again,
Tom

Re: Shaft for a vacuum pump
No problemo...
I would check the old oil pump and vacuum pump to see which has the most axial play, that could help determine which one caused the wear.
"Damage is done" so to speak, but examination may lead to better preventive measures.
I certainly would get a new seal for the shaft (inside the gear), if you get a used pump.

Re: Shaft for a vacuum pump
Thanks for the reply, the The re-builder has the old oil pump, and he is in Greenfield MA which is a little bit or a jaunt from here.
Thanks for the heads up I'll see if I can check the play some other way.

Re: Shaft for a vacuum pump
Here are two more pics. It's defiantly worn. Thanks again TylerDurden for giving me a picture that I can compare to. I think that I'll start looking for a pump. If any one has one here with a goo drive slot on the shaft or just the shaft please let me Know either here or by e-mail.
