Servo or Aircon pump?

Post by ctange »

I just got a new GolfII, with servo steering.
I have never had this before.

I see a pump in the engine compartement,
but I think it is too big to be the servopump?

Can it be to a kind of aircon?

The item under your alternator is the air conditioning compressor. If you chase the lines going to and from it, it will go into the cab for the evaporator and to the front grill to the condensor. Any type of power steering pump would be under the items you see from the top. There will be the crank pully and then the water pump pully (and the AC and alternator as in the pics). Other than those listed, if there's another one, it's likely power steering.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

I have too many to count

Thank you for the quick reply.

What is the chance that the aircon is still working in this car from 1989?

mine works in my 82 although it just started leaking again (did some orings about 5 years ago). And they are not hard to fix if the compressor isn't frozen but it takes some effort. Problem is finding R12 or doing a r 134 conversion. O rings tend to leak with old age at the various junctions on the hose connections. So if you have to open it you should find every junction, replace every o ring, evacuate the system with a vacuum pump then recharge it to spec or to where you have no bubbles in the site glass (I think the MK2 still has a sight glass). If you want to convert to R134 read several on line articles about it, there are varying opinions about how to do it and many are wrong. You may need to flush/purge the system and possibly change some components, replace the compressor oil, and make 100% sure you have no leaks.

Interesting alternator/AC belt setup.
I've never seen belts routed that way before.
