OBD Codes

Post by RJKelley »

I got my little OBD II scanner, and it works just fine on my 2010 Golf, but I have no idea how to interpret the error codes. Currently I have 2, P13D07 and P13D09. Any idea what that means, or where to find out??

I found a site that has some codes on it but I don't see yours. Either your code is not valid or they are not showing it.

Thanks for checking. I re-ran the diagnostic and I either copied it wrong the first time or it changed - - . The codes are P13D7 (faulty pressure sensor on glow plug #1) and P13D9 (Wiring harness fault). Doing a little digging, I found another person who had the D9 code, and it turned out the wiring harness was loose - - needed to be re-seated.

Several cross-references say a 2010 Golf TDI will take a Bosch 80046 glow plug at around $25. Parts Geeks say you need a Beru W0133-1920363 @ $118. The Beru appears to have a different kind of fitting on the top end - - - . Elsewhere I have seen comments that glow plugs with pressure sensors are much more likely to cost $100+ than $25. Clarification on that point would be helpful.

My Jetta is the first generation TDI and I don't know if the glow plugs are the same. I've only owned it for 2 1/2 year and replaced my first a non sensor glow plug last week.

Hmmmm. My guess would be that if you aren't getting 'check engine' lights, the pressure senser was added later. I'm just thrilled we have a government that takes such good care of us. It is amazing any of us reached adulthood without this level of intrusion - - uh, excuse me - - I mean "care" - - this level of care.

I think your right about mine not have a sensor. My error code for the glow plugs picks-up the difference in voltage between the plugs. It can't tell you what glow plug is shot just there is a difference in the voltage somewhere between the glow plugs. The Torque program that I'm using seems to have a pretty go description of the fault codes but will offer a internet link if the description is a bit vague.
