I swapped out a 2.1L waterbox for a 1.9L AAZ TD from a 1994 VW Golf (this engine is really hard to find in the U.S., and many of the big parts stores tell me it doesn’t exist. I bought the engine out of British Columbia). I’ve had some issues over the last 50,000 miles that I’ve worked out (mainly overheating issues, but also mounting, exhaust and vibration issues, etc.). I finally thought I had everything worked out and now my local mechanic is telling me that I’ll need a new turbo. . . that it might not be rebuild-able.
I can’t find a 1.9L AAZ turbo anywhere. I've sent VW Diesel Parts an email as well, but it looks like they don't specialize in this engine? Does anybody know where I could find one? I've scoured the interweb and my mechanic claims to have as well.
Thanks,
Andy
