Radiator fan assembly question...

Post by B5in »

I just picked up a 1991 ecoDiesel Jetta and the fans are missing, will any mk2 fan & assembly work or do I have to get one from another diesel?

The dual fans are nice, but I don't think there is much special besides the connector. I have a set somewhere... I'll look at in the next day or so.
Have a nice day.

I forgot to mention my car has a/c (doesn't actually work) would it have came stock with only one fan or two?

I purchased it 2 nights ago and the previous owner jerry rigged a fan from an unknown vehicle and it looks terrible, I'm embarrassed to even post a pic of how bad it looks  . I just want it to have what it would have came with or at least something that fits and looks OEM.

Stock w/ AC had a dual fan dealie - the fan on the right was belt driven off the left fan.

I'm sure a VW single-fan setup would be fine, there are a lot of them out there.
Have a nice day.

I believe I still have a dual one in the shed from a 1993 Passat wagon that had a eco diesel in it (transplant) - car is gone, a few parts remain. It is one of the belt driven ones. I don't suppose you are anywhere the Washington DC area? Shipping is probably high due to the size. Not sure if I still have pics.

The duals came in 2 and 3 speed configs. I don't know if the Jettas used all three speeds. Two speeds should be fine.

One fan should be fine, even with AC working.
Have a nice day.

Good, it's also possible that many of the Mk3s had the dual fans.
The shroud is different but it's possible the fans/motor will swap into your shroud,... 6 bolts/nuts.

2000 TDI Jetta.

Yes, the original Eco set-up would be 3-speeds.
You must be missing the relay as well.
Post how you wire the new one in. I am not sure how this will work out. The fan needs to run when the air cond. is on.
Are you still in possession of the original plug for the plug-in? That probably will not work.
Post how you wire this in.
The rest of the GTI's and Jettas were 2-speeds as far as I know.

I'll post up before and after pics, man oh man you guys are going LYAO at what's in there

fortunately the original plug is still intact but sadly the shroud is gone.

Also turns out it's a 1992 ECOdiesel which supposedly was built in very small numbers which is kind of cool but as far as sourcing parts it sucks

That whole "only 47 '92 Eco's sold in USA" thing is a moronic myth. But, if you buy into it, I have a pristine one in storage I can sell you for like $7,000!

They used two relays (not surprising) to achieve the 3-speeds. They would have been attached to the shroud.

But if it's on the internet it's true

I was skeptical, I also have a W8 Passat which supposedly was built in low #'s but you can check Craigslist on any given day and there's at least 3 for sale

I'll check to see if I still have the relays, surprisingly the fan that the previous owner rigged actually works as it should, even the timed after run works
