I'm about done with the lower block on my jetta rering, but I noticed a crack in one of the ring ridges on one piston, and I've decided to replace it. According to my mk1 Bentley, there should be a code for the honing group on the block. I can't find it. Is it somewhere different on MK2's (in bentley its on the upper ridge by cylinder 1)? or lightly stamped and possibly lost to surface rust? Does anyone know the range for factory cylinder size or piston size for an 86 turbo? Would you guys just look for the uppermost piston size in the range, allowing for .01 -.02 mm of wear in use and deglazing?
engine code MF (fittingly)

I got the car with about 100k on it, so I'd be surprised if there was a rebore

.... also, I am clearly in the market for a matching piston, so pm if you've got a potential match you want to sell

I somehow managed to get into three of these engines without noticing the piston size is stamped on the piston...
problem solved, got a used piston, got engine together with rering... time will tell....
