Fuel lines

Post by EcoDiesel1991 »

I have a leak on my supply line leading from the engine to the tank on my 1991 jetta ecodiesel 1.6L. I have decided to replace both the supply and return line, but i canniot seem to find these lines anywhere. if anyone could give me any information on where to find the parts the help would be greatly appreciated.

That plastic line might be hard to find.
Have you bypassed the water separator and removed the check valve on the supply line yet? Standard MK2 stuff.
There is also a check valve in the return line near the tank fuel sender that might be plugged and causing back pressure.
Normally there isn't much pressure in the return line.
Where is the leak at?

The leak appears to be coming from the section where the lines run into the frame and then come out and clip to the underside of the frame, so i cannot see the leak. There is just diesel fluid everywhere and my mechanic that i trust is estimating 10 hours of labor, IF i can find the correct lines.

Also the guy i bought it from who is a NAPA parts distributor, suggests i buy steel lines. He had the vehicle for 5 years and put nearly 70k miles, rebuilt the fuel pump and replaced all hosing other than fuel lines, plus new injectors and glow plugs and the relay. So the vehicle is in great condition for 222,910 miles, but now I've got this big problem.

If you're not fussy about where the lines run, just get some plastic or tygon lines from the shop and dress them nicely along the bottom.
Have a nice day.

I was thinking 1/4 air brake line might work.
I bet I have a used fuel return line for a Jetta sitting around, can't think where the first place I'd look for it would be, ha.
