FS: 1983 Jetta 1.6D with greasecar kit $1200 obo Porter IN

Post by supersisu »

Realizing that I'm not going to be able to get this thing back together this summer: I bought this car a few years ago when it looked like I wasn't going to be able to get my Caddy on the road. Caddy is on the road, so this car has been sitting in my sister's backyard for too long.

Brief description:
Car originally turbo, someone swapped in a NA. They really didn't finish: The fuel filter needs to be mounted and the ac compressor was just sitting wedged in front (not attached but it still worked!). Car ran pretty well last time I drove it. Must be trailered or towed currently.

Work I have done:
Sorted some electric problems (basically bad ground).
New ventilation blower installed.
Drilled hole in floor to drain water leaking in through ac inlet thingy.
Fabricated ac compressor mount.

Work that needs to be done:
To be installed: Timing belt, injector pump, alternator, ac compressor.
Tires
Windshield
Greasecar kit installed.
Carpet pretty ratty.
Fuel filter needs to be mounted (seems like turbo intake is different, filter doesn't fit well with NA engine)
More stuff that I can't remember right now.

Good things:
Actually not rusty.
Clear title

Bad things:
Well, you know....

Photos attached are from a few years ago, will update if anyone is interested. I'm in Chicago, car is in Porter IN. I'll be out there Wed for a short time, can take new photos and answer any questions.

Thanks,
Erik

Love that body style. Finding one with little to no rust is nice. However I have way too many cars and am not getting any younger. Good luck with the sale, it has a ton of potential. Would make an awesome TDI swap or MTDI.

it's a conversion from an electronically controlled TDI injection pump to mechanical. Don't recall the details but it gives most of the tdi performance without the ECU to run it all.
