Stuck Heatshields

Took the injectors out so I can do a compression test. One heatshield stuck to one of the injectors as it was removed. That's okay.

Other three are stuck in place down in the head. Anyone know a trick for getting these to come loose? They're pretty stuck.

I threaded in some 5/16 x 1 screws into the hole on mine - these were not machine thread they were more like sheet metal or lag bolt type threads, pretty pronounced threads. Then a little tapping, turning, and/or pulling seems to break them loose. The screws I had were hex head (something like 1/2 or 9/16) so I could put a socket on them and thread them in. Whatever you do be careful to not wring off the screw or break the aluminum. Also some spray lube or something that will cut through carbon might help. Maybe even some Brake Parts Cleaner. Use sparingly though.

Sometimes you can turn it over and they will fly out.
A long, fat screw is my first choice though.

yep, I've got a screw that fits the purpose in its own little spot in my tool box. Its a sheet metal screw with the right thread to get into the hole in the heat shield, and long enough that I can pry the head of the screw. They're usually not stuck too bad... just hard to get any leverage on them

The screw idea worked. Thanks
