1.6NA oil in coolant

Here is how the story goes:

1: resurrected an old rabbit that was sitting in weeds. Parked because of head gasket, rebuilt it with ARP head studs
2: lasted about a year, then pressurized coolant again
3: had the head checked out, it was cracked. Replaced cylinder head with new one from (competitor's name removed by moderator), new gasked, head studs

Now engine is running perfectly. Starts just fine in winter in South Dakota at 20 degrees. But have an issue with about 12oz of oil in the coolant about every week.. Flushed coolant with simple green/water about 3 times, and still getting more residue yet. Very thick black nasty stuff.

Any input would be appreciated

Mostly it was the 1.5L engines, but with repeated overheating the blocks can crack by the oil passage from the block to the head; it's near the #3 cylinder. Head removed: clean the block top surface off very well, finishing with brake cleaner or carb cleaner. Let it dry, then heat up the area around that oil orifice slowly with a propane torch. If present, a crack will usually show up by bubbling up oil residue that's 'down in' the crack itself. Otherwise, make certain the block & head surfaces are truly flat.

Thats a great idea vwtyp133... Was hoping for an easy fix, but deep down I know its gonna be something like that. I also retorqued the head and gained some torque, but didnt stop the oil. Just hate to tear it down since its running so good but its inevitable.
