Mercedes 300D turbo on VW 1.6?

Would the turbo off of a 300D work on a 1.6 with the proper manifold? I've heard they can be laggy but with the fuel screw turned up (a lot
) advanced timing, and maybe the governor mod, could it work well? Most of my driving is highway and interstate, not in town. These turbos are decently abundant near me.

Got a picture of one?
I've never heard of anyone trying one on a 1.6.

I used to converse with a fellow from this forum who did this.. took a turbo from a mercedes and put it on his Golf. It required some modification of the firewall, but he did it. I can't remember the particulars, but it was a little laggy but pulled pretty good.

I had a feeling lag would be present. I figure a good flowing intake and 3" exhaust will make for a faster spool. I just read a forum today where a guy used a VW t3 and the merc turbo to make a hybrid, which apparently was a very nice setup. I'll drop a picture or a Mercedes diesel turbo.
