Crank on jetta seems weak but im not sure if its due to the starter or if its just that i reringed engine and am used to cranking through less compression.
Starter is old. Definitely replacing bushing in trans case. Do these motors tend to weaken over time? Im debating replacing starter but dont want to find myslef in the same situation only 100 bucks poorer.

Re: Mediocre crank
Crank it for a long while then feel the posts on the starter,
the cable ends on the battery,
including the ground cable ends.
If you feel any warmth there is a bad connection/contact.
The gear reduction starters are normally kind of slow but good connections might help improve it.
