So what have I been working on?
Mostly my own projects but every once in awhile someone has a nice old VW 1.6 diesel.
Like Mary's '85 Golf I call her Pretty Blue.

I've worked on it before. About 5 years ago.
Put a new clutch in it.
It had the only push rod tube bushing so worn
that I couldn't catch the edge and knock it out.
I had to use a tap from the other end to get ahold of it.
I cleaned the tube really well but somehow
one of the tap shavings took out the seal after it was running.
So I had to do it again this time it was clean and is still running strong.
The trany that is.

She doesn't drive it much and one of the lines between the injectors cracked.
Fuel drained back to the tank and the pump sat dry.
Wouldn't pull fuel because the vanes got stuck.
So I pulled it apart freed up the vanes.
Timing belt looked like hell so it got a new belts and waterpump.

Noticed oil seeping from the front of the block.
And thought; we'll deal with that when it leaks oil into the resevoir.
When I went to put coolant back in and there was oil in the coolant.
So it needs a headgasket too.
Looks like it's had the head replaced before. It has a TD head.

Dawn dishsoap in the cooling system followed by 2 rinses.
None of the valve shims needed changed.

Maiden voyage into town tomorrow.

I told her it needed a muffler.
She said it had a lifetime muffler from midas.
I went to midas, they pulled the info and she just got the cheapo one without the lifetime waurentee.
They couldn't get a new Walker muffler for an '85 Golf at least they haven't found one yet.
