The spot where the screw tightens down on it finally snapped. It's inevitable if you try to bend it after it's been tightened down a few times.
Info on getting a new one is a dismal NLA. Luckily I finally found a vw superhero's post here who said any choke cable will work, so I got a 6' one from Napa for ten bucks and figured I'll make it work somehow.
Turns out, you just take the metal wire part out of the choke cable and put it into the cold start cable. Eureka!

I haven't had any break yet but have wondered how long it will take before the wire breaks and is too short to use.
