no power

For some reason my 99 Beetle 1.9TDI lost power going up the freeway. I had the air on and the car wouldn't even pull a small hill unless i downshifted into third gear. After work it seemed ok, but still feels like it doesn't have the power it had. Any suggestions? I did get some fuel at a truck stop not my usual place. Would bad fuel cause this problem? Thanks for the information.

What kind of engine is yours? How many hps?
The power returns when you stop the engine and start it again?

I would change the fuel filter if it keeps acting up that way.

Same thing happened to our 2000 Beetle TDI. Just removed and cleaned the MAF sensor (used brake cleaner) and it is running like a champ again.

Look on TDICLUB.COM for thread posts dealing with MAF or Mass Air for more info.

We have 2 '98 TDI's, both with sooting and intake problems, which we've cleaned, and 2 '01's that both had similar problems. What can we do to keep this from happening again?
