if there are any dirt circle race tracks in your area? they will have methanol since thats what the cars generally run on. after talking with my chemistry professor he said that any alcohol would work, even rubbing alcohol, although he said it may take longer. i would like to see if this is true, but i still have not had any time to make biodiesel yet hopefully in the next couple of weeks
be carefull with that methanol it is extremely toxic

I currently get mine from a local dragstrip, you can also try bulk fuel suppliers if you want to purchase by the drum. Cost per gallon goes down by about half if you buy a drum.

I just had some delivered by a local oil / fuel supplier, up here in Northern Michigan. The guy on the phone said they're gearing up for increased winter methanol sales. I'm not sure what that's about -- maybe fuel / gas antifreeze or de-icer.

$2.19 / gallon for a 55 gallon drum, delivered.

I started a thread at the infopop biodiesel forum for people to list where their methanol/KOH or NaOH suppliers are located, which might be helpful to some folks. It's kind of a short list so far but please list there or here at this forum, where exactly yours is coming from:
