grating noise in neutral

Hi all,

In neutral there is a transmission grating noise, which dissappears when I depress the clutch.

Any ideas???

Throwout bearing maybe?

Throwout bearing makes noise when you step on clutch and goes away when you let off.

Check your shift linkage and make sure the transmission is actually in neutral and not partially in another gear. Otherwise ,I'd go with CoolAirVWs reccomendation and replace it.
