Just curious what these wires do that are attached to the IP circled in blue? The one on the left of the picture has since fallen off and the only difference that I have noticed is the shift indicator light has stopped working. Do they have any other function? Thanx.

Re: IP Wires?
They are for the upshift light. One switch is ~90% throttle and the other ~10% throttle opening, so as long as you are in between those two points and not in 5th gear, the shift light will come on above about 2400 RPM.wewantutopia wrote:Just curious what these wires do that are attached to the IP circled in blue? I couldn't find my throttle...One switch is ~90% throttle and the other ~10% throttle opening
Yes, just upshift light. The A/C didn't have a throttle position cutout, but fortunately VW provided the "kit".
On the TD engines I find the 2400 rpm upshift a little silly as the K14 or T3 haven't even spooled yet.

Too low an RPM for the N/A engines as well. Next time I have my dash apart, I want to tear into the upshift light circuit and see if it can be made to come on at a higher RPM or ideally be fully adjustable. Would be nice to convert that into a useable shift lift.

Two seperate questions here...libbybapa wrote: Yes, just upshift light. The A/C didn't have a throttle position cutout, but fortunately VW provided the "kit".
1) Is the "kit" than Andrew mentions still available? I have the shift indicator switches and would like the AC to cutout under high loads...
2) Since there is already a wire running to the W terminal, if I were to put in a tach, could I just tap into the shift light wire behind the dash?
