1Y question - again!!!
Sorry folks if I'm being a pain in the ass - I promise I am trying to do as much research as I can before I come on here, but I keep coming up against lose ends - the internet isn't always that wonderful. Anyway, knowing the engine code that you want for a conversion, in this case probably a 1Y - how do you then find out what the correct doner car is so that the manifold (intake) will fit into my vanagon engine bay? I have looked at one from a Golf http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... Track=true and the inlet manifold seems miles too big. Following a thred in which Libbybapa mentioned that possibly the IM might not fit from my 1.6na lump, I need to be sure that the IM that comes with the engine will fit. I know that the Seat toledo, the VW passat, vento, polo and the Golf all had this 1Y engine. Anyone done this already and does the 1.6 manifold fit or if not which doner one will. Don't want to buy an engine only to find I need to source another IM. BTW found good site for engine codes http://www.autoshoppingcenter.com/Volks ... scode.html hope this helps someone.
I'm pretty sure that the 1Y intake manifold would fit in your van fine, but you would need to fab up an air filter system. The 1.6 intake ports are differently shaped form the 1.9 and so the manifolds will not bolt up correctly. I have heard of adapter plates being sold to compensate for the change in the port shape.
