1.9 head gasket?
I read somewhere that running a 1.9 head gasket on a 1.6 is good because the gasket is made of metal. Can anyone tell me more about this?
Haven't heard that one. I recommend using the FelPro no-retorque gaskets. I use them exclusively with great results as does a friend who has about 8 Rabbit diesels. The are about twice as much as the OEM but are very high quality and should outlast the OEM ones in my opinion.

There's a thread on this on the GTD forum.
If you have a hydraulic cylinder head the
1.9 metal head gasket is a bolt-on and, apparently,
much more durable alternative to the stock gasket.
However, if you have a mechanical cylinder head,
the metal head gasket poses a (not insurmountable)
problem because of the extra oil hole.
It does seem to be a highly recommended up-grade.
