80-84 injectors on an `86

Post by wewantutopia »

Has anyone ever done this? I was told they increase power a bit and require slightly less pressure to open. If they require less pressure to open, would there have to be any adjustments to the IP made?

I used lines off of a 82 rabbit for my 90 Jetta and had no issues...

The difference is between TDI and NA injectors as far as I know. The higher pressure injectors should give you better atomization of the fuel, a better burn and more power if anything.

I've used turbo injectors, non turbo injectors

I should have included the reason I had to use the lines off of an 82 rabbit for my 90 Jetta. I sent my IP for a rebuild, long story short, my IP would have cost a 100 bucks more rebuild due to it being a "high altitude" pump. I chose to have the vendor send me a already refurbed pump. That pump did not line up with my injector lines. As luck would have it, I had the rabbit sitting around, and presto, a perfect fit...

so, there are differences...

I was pretty sure '82 lines wouldn't fit the '90 because of the delivery valves being longer.... but with an older pump on the '90 the older lines might work.

I think a lower breaking pressure would have the same effect as advancing the timing a bit which may increase HP on an out-of-tune engine. But a properly tuned engine wouldn't benefit, in fact, a higher breaking pressure is more desirable as it gives better atomization.

I swapped the longer delivery valves into my 1.5 pump to make it work on my 90 Jetta.

to be honest, I have no history on my "new" pump...what I do know is it fit and it's been running...

I was a bit miffed when attempted to put original lines back on and they wouldn't line up, but it worked out in the end...:D
