Timing belt on 85 Jetta
I want to change my timing belt on my 85 Jetta.I can not find anyone who will do it. Is the belt a hard one to change? Do you need special tools? I even called 3 places who work on foreign cars.
There is a lot of searchable info available on this forum.
The Bentley Repair manual would be good to have if attempting this, or any job on your jetta.
The belt isn't that hard to change and it can be done without any special tools. However, a few tools are available to make the job a lttle easier.
The hard part is removing things to get the belt off and then making sure nothing moves while the belt is off, which will affect the timing.
If you do the job yourself make sure you rotate the engine by hand a few revolutions after the new belt is on to make sure the crank and cam are still in time and there is no interference.
Where are you located? Maybe someone knows of a shop near by that works on vw diesels.
