Oil pump problem in Europe, 6 cylinder engine.

I made it home to Norway from Amsterdam. 2500km in a 1985 LT31D turbo.

Got the problem before, started 3 years ago, still driving.
but had oil pressure after short while, oil light off after 10 seconds cold start.

Read about that oil pump bolt/gasket losen and oil runs back into pan.


Problem now is no oil pressure, even took out oil indicator on engine block. No oil coming out. Let engine run for 1-3min, but do not drive without oil pressure.

Have anybody had this problem before?

Found an old oil pump from a Volvo diesel, will try to replace oil pump with new timing belt.

Also found a good van 1993 LT35td for spare parts, good working engine.

Will a 1993 LT35 turbodiesel engine fit in a 1985 LT31d?
Almost the same swap with Volvo, 1993 engine in a 1985 car.

normaly are the engine 85ér the same constuction as the 93ér. but the engines with 92 and 95 horsepower are an intercooler, the engines with 102 and 109 hp are not intercooled. what for engines are you have?
the specification of the different engines you can read on an label on the leftside near the clutch-pedal.
1G: 92 hp /68kw
ACL: 95 hp /70Kw
DV: 102 hp or 109 hp /75kw or 80kw

if you will build an 1G or an ACL engine in an DV van, you get any trouble. it is an problem to build the intercooler-kit inside this car.

Seems like the option with new engine is out now since the 1993 engine is intercooled.

Alternative is now to repair the existing engine.

Any suggestions on how to replace the oil pump?

Is the problem with no oil pressure related to oil pump?
Heard about some gasket that must be replaced?
