ve injector pully shaft movement in and out of pump housing.

Post by j1023bryce »

Injector pump shaft has in and out play 1 mm ish. Found this movement when timing belt was being replaced. Is this normal or an indication of injector pump failure. 2000 TDI Golf 1.8L I believe it is the VE pump. I did not know if the movement would translate into the rollers and cap. One feedback was a retaining clip came off and I need to worry about metal in the pump now.

end play

Post by 81caddyGuy »

Mine had side play when i tore it down to rebuild it but i did not have the tools to ream the new bushings so i ust left it. as far as end playi am not sure about that thinking thru the VE pump that should be ok because the main shaft ends at the governor drive and transfers thru rubber bushings so 1 mm should not be to far out.

Edit: Pump just showed up and the washers literally fell out of it, if you need one I can send it out Friday.

Hi there
I´m an all new user of this great forum!
I have an old ´91 Passat vith af Bosch VE type injector pump mounted.
All running great, but having trouble that diesel fuel is starting to leak from the top cover of the pumpt itself.
The leaking is coming from the lever guide sleeve on the cover (below the gas arm and spring)
I have had my mechanic take tho cover off and exchange the bushing, and it all was okay for about 3 weeks, then the leak started again.....
My question is the following:
Shall the bushibng be in level with the top side of the cover, since mine is about 5-8 mm above level with the top of the governor vover???
I think the bushing is turned upside down during installaion maybe !

in the "libbybapa" topic
viewtopic.php?t=6694
this bushing is in level with the cover????
Must the sleeve on the bushing be mounted so that the sleeve is on the inside of the cover?

Another question:
Does anyone know if the governor cover can be removed while the pump is still attached to the engine and how is this done ?
Thanks in advance
Kewin

Yes the injection pump top can be taken off while on the car.
Remove the lever/springs, paying attention to how they go back on.
Unscrew the allen bolts.

You mentioned a bushing swap, hard to get that wrong.
There is a ridge on the end that goes inside, it sits up against the inside of the top, lets you know when it's in far enough.
You didn't mention a new o-ring on the shaft that rides in the bushing.

The only washers I'm aware of that aren't copper and used for sealing are these..

You need one of the little concave ones that go on the roller ring assembly? (Bottom right of picture)

I also have one from a spare pump I can send you if you want for the cost of shipping.

Or you can call a Bosch shop and order one, they can get any piece in the pump for you.

This is the Bosch shop I use in Austin, TX for everything, they can order and drop ship stuff to you even.

I'd stop by a local diesel injection shop... they should have all that stuff.
Have a nice day.

Yeah if you are looking for a new one; search the web for a bosch service center locator and it will point to the local bosch guys.
