fuel tank gauge

Post by pipimilr »

I have a vanagon that sat for years and have got it running again. The fuel gauge is not operating at all times, intermitent, mostly if I add fuel to full, it will register then mysterously disappear past empty. Is the sender faulty, or gauge? If it is the sender will I have to completey remove the tank or is there a simple fix? thanks Irene

I have an orphan 80 air cooled 2.0L that does the same thing. I know pulling the tank is not any fun.

Hopefully someone might give us some info on what is up? My diesels all operate normally...maybe I have been lucky

How's the temp gauge working?
They are both driven by a voltage regulator.

vanagon fuel gauge

Post by pipimilr »

The temp gauge works fine. When I fill up the tank to full the fuel gauge registers and up to about a3/4 of a tank. I am guessing I am going to have to drop the tank :( . Thanks for the input. Irene

Make sure the connections are tight (brass nuts) on the back of the instrument panel/ printed circuit.
