Pressure plate bolts...

Post by nicknack2 »

Guys, I'm having trouble taking off the pressure plate bolts, the 10mm wrench is lose and the 9mm don't fit, this is a regular 10mm 11 point bolt right??? :?:

Not sure what year/application you're working on, but the flywheel bolts on my 82 are 10mm 6 sided bolts. Does the bolt head have something like 8.8 on it (maybe someone screwed in an SAE bolt instead of metric). If you're working with a 12 point socket, it may be a wise choice to get a set of 6 point sockets just in case.
Everybody else lists their cars here - but not me.

I have too many to count

I changed my clutch a while back and I remember it was a 12 point socket head. So called aircraft bolt. I'm a little fuzzy on the size though. Maybe a 10mm. I had a friend help me with the job and remember him asking me if I had the 12 point socket.

It's a 12-point for sure... either 9 or 10... and I'm thinking 9.

I've seen them both ways. GTIs used 12 points with the 210mm clutch setup, but all standard Rabbits both gas and diesel I've seen (several) are six point, unless someone switched.

If it's not a 6 point.

Given how little you torque them to when they are being reinstalled I personally don't get why they are 12 point... only a VW engineer knows for sure.

I'm not sure you can use a wrench.
It's been awhile but it seems like there isn't much room around the bolt head. Not enough for a wrench.
A socket usually has thin walls.
