I have done a 5th gear swap last summer. It has worked out quite well for me. I installed a ASF and swapped the .75 ratio to a .71. So at 60 mph the rpm's are 2400 instead of 2900. Your will need to buy another triple square socket. It is a different size then the CV's. Other then that it's pretty straight forward. There's a real nice write up at this web site.

Sure, suppose you could reverse engineer all the housing and internal parts changes made between the 4- and 5-speed transaxles. Probably be a lot easier to just put in a 5-speed box to start with.Gearhead wrote:I've never taken my 4speed apart, but is it possible to ADD a 5th gear? I actually have a overdrive 4th, so I wouldn't. I was just curious.
