Question about gage clusters

Post by Krank »

Will a gage cluster from a model that has the upshift indicator retrofit into a model without, knowing that the upshift light wouldln't function? Does it have the same wiring harness and speedo cable connectors? Should I bother trying?

I think it should work. I swapped an '83/4 GTi cluster into my '82 pickup and swapped parts around between the new and original cluster:

It should work.
The upshift light is turned on by a ground.
I thought I would use it for my glow plugs,... but it went out when the glow plugs came on,... and lit up when they went off.
That light is also set up to dim when the headlights are turned on.
