Diesel into a cabrio?

Post by mattbondy »

Are the cabrios essentially identical to rabbits? There is an 85 with a nice body and decent interior nearby that I think could be had very cheap. Some of the carpet has been ripped out. I dont know if it runs but I assume its a gasser. Would a swap to a 1.6 NA be difficult? My 86 Jetta has a pretty nice body but there are some problematic areas. My brake system is also in terrible shape. One big factor is the slushbox in the jetta, the rabbit has a four speed. I cant afford it right now (asking price is $400 but I heard the guy seemed open to offers) but in a couple of months its possible I would have the money and time for the swap. It has nice rims and tires on it too. My jetta needs rear tires as it is (I use snow tires on the front...)

Easy swap. Can not see why it would be any different than a rabbit the drop top should not make it hard for the diesel engine to fit. Vw's never change much from year to year as a rule and pretty much any gasoline water cooled body with a 020 tranny its a direct bolt on.

I often thought of a diesel cabrio with a tdi. Vw are lame for not making one. Exhaust smell? What about a gasoline powered droptop all the same to me. You really would not smell anything driving the car.
