what is benefit of diesel conditioner?

Post by 1RED-RYDER1 »

i recently saw several cans of NAPA diesel fuel conditioner at a
salvage store. is there any value to using this stuff? [seems as if the dilution rate was 32 oz to 125 gal!]
does it go stale, lose it effectivenessw/ age?
YES, I'VE READ THAT IT HAS A POSITIVE EFFECT ON WINTERIZING FUEL, but is it of any value in warmer weather.
[been using 32 oz of ATF every other fillup for a long time.]
just wondering!

Some additives provide cetane booster, some provide lubrication.
Some kill bacteria.
It usually says on the can, what the main use is.
'91 Golf gasser converted to a 12mm pump, M-TDI.
'84 1.6TD Rabbit with a VNT-15 turbo, still setup to run on vegetable oil.
'84 GTI with 1.7TD pistons and intercooled.
2003 TDI wagon
2000 TDI Jetta.

How about using 2 stoke oil in fuel to add lubrication?? Will this create problems with ash or carbon build up? I used to use it in an old 6.2l GM diesel, which never gave me any pump or injector problems. Is there anyone out there using it in a VW diesel??

That's normal. However, it will change based off of the oil stock that was used to make the biodiesel. Adding #2 to it will lower the gel point. Last winter, my B100 was not gelling at 32F (That's about as cold as it gets here). Unique... I hope to have similar results this year.

Would 20 or so oz of two stroke oil added to every tank, be considered adaquate lubrication? Safe to use?

Can't hurt anything, 2-stroke oil is made to be burned and does so fairly cleanly. I run about 1 pt. of my mix per tank full giving about a 100:1 mix, which is about what you use in a 2 stroke engine as I recall.

Additives --EH ?.

Post by hagar »

hagar is so OLD he actually suffered through the I P disaster. --ALL V E type pumps need additives if we use 15 PPM in Kanada. Roosa-Master , Stanadyne and BOSCH ---read my lip's.

And Fatmobile is correct ----you must understand --the many reasons for "Additives".

For BOSCH and Stanadyne it is LUBRICATION,LUBRICATION and to lubricate .

A curious situation developed. BOSCH and VW actually promoted Stanadyne ----the competition's product.

By the way would ALL please state location in profile so we can be specific ? EH ?.

Answer : Benefit ? out of this world.----very important issue.

hagar.
