radiator

Post by peggysgirl »

I am in desperate need of a radiator for my 1982 deisel vanagon. Have purchased 2 and they are wrong. to rebuild the core on my existing one is over 600.00. Does anyone have one or know where I can get one?

I don't think that they are still available new and as you've seen, used ones will need to be rebuilt at significant expense. Lots of people upgrade to the later radiators which requires adding the brackets and a little bit of re-wiring.

Difficult is a very relative term. I wouldn't find it difficult, but then again I've done custom engine swaps. Your skill set might be different. Some folks find it difficult to change a tire.

The parts would need to be sourced from a donor vehicle (e.g. junkyard).

You might post a wanted add either here or at www.thesamba.com. I'm sure you can find someone to ship the parts to you and I don't imagine they would cost all that much.

changes

I am confused, because the 1982 radiator has 2 thermostats and the 83 and up has only one, how do you convert this?

The function of the two are combined in the single three pin switch. In the first thread I linked captainpartytime describes the way to rewire for the single switch.

You might want to post the wanted ad in the "for sale/wanted" forum as it will get significantly more traffic.
