I just bought a 99 tdi and am unable to locate the block heater. It sure starts good in the cold 13 deg, but takes a long time to warm up. any help. I've heard of guys getting 60+mpg, how are they doing it and is it possible in a stock vehicle? I have a 5spd and the last 2 tank fulls I have gotten 51.5 and 50.5. Thanks

There may not be a block heater .If you have an A4 [99 1/2 and up] there aren't any frost plugs to get to. TDI's really don't need a lot of glow plug heat to start except when very cold. The reason you don't get much heat at first is because those motors are so efficient they don't produce much waste heat. If you have a manual trans then check to see if the 3 glow plugs at the side coolant flange are good. They are there to help heat coolant going to the heater core.
