Q's ABOUT WASTE GATE.....................

Post by 1RED-RYDER1 »

just bought a 2004 JETTA TDI/5 SPEED. was told 'noise' at idle and 'whistle' @ speed was a waste-gate needing 'attention'.
ANYONE experienced w/ waste-gate 'issues'? ARE waste-gates 'repairable'?
IF NOT what do 'they' cost?

04 wont have a "wastegate". Should have a vnt turbo which has variable vanes to control boost.

Better get that noise checked out. Pull the top timing belt cover and make sure its not from in there.

Turbo's do whistle a bit, normally.

Whoever gave you this advice doesn't know what he's talking about.

Your '04 doesn't have a wastegate, and you should be able to hear the turbo whistle when accelerating/cruising.
