Serpentine belt conversion for 1.9na?

Post by VWuprising »

Does anyone have any insight into converting to a serpentine system on an 82 1.9na? My belt problems have finally broken me and I'd like to change to serpentine if its feasible.

All the parts bolt right on with a couple of caveats. The added stress of the serpentine system on the crank sprocket has been associated with the notoriously common failure of the crank sprocket and bolt. It would be very wise if adding the serp setup to also update the crank nose to accept the much more reliable TDI sprocket. Also, getting a freewheel pulley for the alt is another great way to reduce the stress on the crank nose. Other than that, just get the parts and bolt them on.
