Re: k-14 or k-24?
I don't know what Dakotakid is talking about. I think he's confusing the K14 with the K03. There is no high-end hit for the K14 vs. the K24 unless you're running more than 15 psi or so unintercooled and doing so is not wise in a vanagon. I have always preferred to have more boost in the lower rpms i...

Re: Mechanical VNT Turbo Vane Control
This looks like it would work well as an adjustable boost can.

Re: Mechanical VNT Turbo Vane Control
There are different designs of the VNT turbos. The integral manifold VNT15 as found on the ALH has the vanes closed when pushed down. The non-integral manifold VNT15 has the vanes in the closed position when pulled up. I drew the above drawings representing the latter. Vanes open creates minimal boo...

Re: Mechanical VNT Turbo Vane Control
Here are some design drawings of an updated design that eliminates the need for the spring in the linkage rod by always allowing the accelerator lever to return to idle regardless of vane position and boost can position. Notice the boost can is mounted directly to the transition lever instead of bei...

Re: 1987 VW Quantum Syncro - convert to 1.6 turbo diesel?
10-15% better efficiency with the TDI and 1/2 the heat load on the cooling system. If I had an AEL eTDI pump I could build an mTDI pump for it fairly easily but I build and sell the 4-cylinder versions. As with anything, if you don't know how to do it, it's hard. If you do know how to do it, it's ea...

I'd look at the AEL 2.5 inline-5 TDI.

The timing that gives the most power gives the best fuel economy also.

Re: New generator injection pumps on eBay
I have gotten one of the 4 cyl pumps and thoroughly examined it. It has a 20mm drive shaft with a short snout, so there is not any VW sprocket that will fit it with the correct offset. It has a workable camplate and 9mm plunger/head assembly. The governor spring setup is not well suited to our engin...

Re: Timing Question 1.9 AAZ Adjustable IP Pulley...
That style of pump is timed with a pin through the square notch in the pulley into the pump case when the crank is at TDC for #1. The timing procedure does not involve the dial indicator. Install the lock pin (drill bit could suffice), loosen the three sprocket to hub bolts, rotate the engine a few ...

Re: Mechanical VNT Turbo Vane Control
I have no real firsthand experience with compounds, but I think that if your goal was more than 20psi efficiently then with an ideal compound system you could get better overall performance. If your goal is less than 20psi then there is no advantage to compounds over a single VNT and there are sever...

Low Mileage 1.6 Diaphragm Vacuum Pump - $40
Up for sale is a low mileage 1.6 diaphragm vacuum pump. This came from an engine with 30,000 miles on it. The oil pump drive slot does not appear to have any wear. I've tested it and it works fine. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a269/libbybapa/100_1818.jpg $40 plus shipping. Firm on price. PM if ...
