Grease nipples

I have replaced both tie rod ends recently on the Caddy and now my Peugeot needs a new ball joint... Older cars always had grease nipples but nowadays the joints are are non serviceable, would installing grease nipples on the joints prolong their life? Does the grease end up in the right place insid...

High mileage?

Who has the highest odo-reading? My Caddy has 373000km on the clock, the engine is still strong but it needs new injector nozzles, struts and a tie rod end. Oh and the tail gate is barely hanging on to the bed, it's rusted out in hinge area... A friend just bought a Mercedes 200D -88 with 745 000 km...

Yes I forgot about the shrouding
Mk1 GTD didn´t have a IC
Mk2 GTD is pretty rare here too, the mk2 TD did not have a IC IIRC
Diesel Deans IC is still going to work just fine. :D

I think it´s going to work just fine, the GTD stock intercooler sits on top of the gearbox in the stream of warm air coming from the radiator

 Sorry, I didn't know that the PD style motor was a high pressure rail system. Oops, missed that little word yesterday  It´s a high pressure system but does not have a common rail between injectors as Vincent Waldon pointed out. Fatmobile : I think you´re correct, the 1Z was first used...

 Sorry, I didn't know that the PD style motor was a high pressure rail system. One never stops learning  Like I mentioned earlier I would pick a pre 2004 TDI 'cause I know they are good for more than 400 000km without any major work done, if well taken care of. Just make sure the timing b...

The new -09 VW diesels have a common rail injection system so the PD is already taken off production. I don´t know what this means but maybe VW thinks that the PD-system wasn´t that great after all. I know that the new Ford diesels went to a very high pressure common rail fuel system, and likely ...

I´d buy a stick shift pre 2004 TDI with a Bosch VE IP and normal injectors. A lot of people at TDI...

Power steering in a Caddy?

We didn´t get power steering in the Caddy, actually I don´t think I´ve ever seen a A1 Golf/Jetta with PS :?

Anyway, I´d like to retrofit a PS steering rack and pump on my Caddy, does the rack from A2 fit?

Our Golf IV TDI is the best car we´ve ever had! 3 Glowplugs (piece a cake to change on a TDI), a coolant temp sensor and a door lock is the only things I can remember right now that has been replaced, other than normal service items  I have no experience about the PD engines that came 2003 (...

At least the newer VW's have lousy levers that cause all kinds of strange things. I don´t know if it applies on these older VW's but it´s forth checking out.

They are just sealed, I put some RTV-sealant under the rubber seal aroud the windshield and that took care of the dripping.

Hook up a amp-meter in series with one of the battery cables, it should show almost 0, it´s just what the clock and maybe your stereo draws. If you get a higher reading start pulling out the fuses one by one, when the amps decrease you have found which fuse draws current and can start looking at wh...

Today it was time to take off the studded winter tires, the spring is here :D Anyway, I noticed that the LH side tie rod had leaked it's grease so I looked at it more closely. It's really sloppy but in some angles it jammed and was quite hard to move, there´s probably some grit inside the boot. ItÂ...
