engine burnt up :-(
well, I torched my engine today. Had no coolant and fried it. Always had water everytime I checked it. For some reason i guess the water leaked out this weekend while i was gone. drove to work and guess I didn't notice the temp gauge until the rabbit started loosing power and I had a huge black smok...

it just occured to me...when replacing these lines, why not make the new hose about 1-2 inches longer? then as they develop leaks over time you can just cut 1/4 inch of the ends and re-use the same hose? No more getting stuck somewhere with a leaky hose and no spare...I've always cut new hose the sa...

hot starter solenoid? it happens when they get old. how old is the starter? check connections, batt cables (they build up resistance too as they get old). when electricals get hot the resistance goes up. that's why old starters and battery cables can have starting problems when the engine is hot, bu...

my rabbit had a PH-8A on it when I bought it. Not a Fram but that is a Fram number and many other brands use the Fram numbering system. That PH-8A Ford V-8 filter is a popular filter that seems to fit many, many applications. And is probably the most common filter on the shelf anywhere. I can't spea...

91 is still a MKII, golf or jetta...same difference. well, a trashed top end is worse than a bad rod...if you wanted it for parts...IMHO, you will have more use for a good head/valves for spares than a block. but new valves and such is cheaper and faster to replace if you need a whole engine. but i ...

just a running diesel engine is worth a grand in my opinion. assuming the low compression is just from the head gasket and the head is not cracked/warpped or rings/valves shot. a clean body is also key. especially if you are in a rust zone. why don't you do the head gasket? you can probably get a co...

a small amount of oil probably can't hurt. I'd suggest either 2-stroke oil, ATF, vegetable/cooking oil, Power Services stuff, or even some engine oil. everyone has their own favorite snake oil. maybe i'll blend it all and make a cocktail, lol. probably a cup or less per tankfull is all you need. I j...
